This residence is located at 10,000 ft. of elevation just outside of Crested Butte, Colorado. One aspect of the job that was especially important to the customer was reducing the likelihood of metal oil canning. To ensure a neat roof appearance and sliver the possibility of oil-canning, the contractor advocated for using a narrower 12” panel with a single added striation for rigidity. This was manufactured in 1.5” mechanical lock standing seam style. The result was a sleek and sturdy roof appearance with a success in minimal to no oil canning.
Some challenges presented with this roof were related to its remote location. Being at 10,000 ft., this site is subject to heavy snow load and ice impact. To mitigate this, Axtell installed nearly 200 lineal feet of S-5! ColorGard Snow Retention. We also added 220v Heat Trace Cables to areas prone to ice damage. These lower-pitched areas were also “double-locked,” which involves crimping the seams twice to further resist ice and water infiltration. ν
